London : Nominations for the 2008 Laurence Olivier awards were announced today. Leading the group is Hairspray with a record breaking 11 nods. The previous record was 10, received by Kiss Me Kate in 2002. Amoung Hairspray's 11 nominations include Best Musical, Best Actress, Best Actor, and Best Director. The Donmar Warehouse's production of Parade received seven nominations with The Lord of the Rings and The Drowsy Chaperone racking up 5 each.
Competing for the award for Best New Play is Absurdia: The Crimson Hotel, Elling, Rafta Rafta , and Whipping it Up .
The winners will be announced on March 3, 2008 at a ceremony held at the Grosvenor House.
