Birmingham : The non-Equity tour of the Tony nominated musical The Wedding Singer kicks of today at BJCC in Birmingham, Alabama.
Starring in the title role is Merritt David Jones. Joining him in the production is Erin Elizabeth Coors as Julia Sullivan, Justin Jutras as Sammy, Penny Larsen as Rosie, John Jacob Lee as George, Sarah Peak as Holly, Mark Raumaker as Glen Gulia, and Nikka Wahl as Linda. The ensemble features Joel Abels, Andrea Andert, Carrie Cimma, Kevin Faraci, Zach Frank, Susan Leilani Gearou, Kimberly Marable, Ciaran McCarthy, Rebecca Lynn Miller, Lindsay Moore, Matthew Ragas, Rebecca Riker, Jason Samuel, Marco Antonio Santiago and Neil Totton.
The production features music by Matthew Sklar, lyrics by Chad Beguelin, book by Tim Herlihy and Chad Beguelin, and direction by Paul Stancato. The creative team includes choreography by Chris Bailey based on the original moves by Rob Ashford, scenic design by Scott Pask, costume design by Gregory Gale, and lighting design by Brian MacDevitt. The musical played 284 performances on Broadway from April 27, 2006 through December 31st.
The Wedding Singer is set in 1985 and rock-star wannabe Robbie Hart is New Jersey's favorite wedding singer. He's the life of the party — until his own fiancé leaves him at the altar. Shot through the heart, Robbie makes every wedding as disastrous as his own. Enter Julia, a sweet-tempered waitress who wins his affection. The only trouble is Julia is about to be married to a Wall Street shark. Unless Robbie can pull off the performance of the decade, the girl of his dreams will be gone forever.
